Dear EVOlutionaries,
Your mind is hard-wired to help you function automatically when you're busy, on the go, or your responsibilities are great.
In fact, it's the genius of your subconscious mind that allows you to drive your car home while on the phone, having a conversation, or thinking about your responsibilities for the day; somehow, you know where to go, how much pressure to put on the gas pedal, when to break, and even when to stop/start at traffic lights... your subconscious mind is super amazing, if you think about it!!
So, consider this: while your subconscious mind is doing so many things so well throughout your day, you may also have some hardened (or engrained) patterns of beliefs that are also on autopilot...
These subconscious beliefs and patterns develop before age 8-12, typically, as this is the "preverbal" stage of development. And during the preverbal stage of development the subconscious and conscious minds are quite integrated. (this is what helps a child be super present, yet also what prevents a child from thinking about multiple things at once and can result in absent-mindedness surrounding responsibilities, agreements, etc.)
In other words, the "distraction" we see in our children is actually "presence", meaning that they are truly present, both subconsciously and consciously at the same time.
And in this super present state, the subconscious mind learns quickly, retains for life (unless repatterned) and sets itself on 'autopilot' to remember and engage with the world this way after you're past the preverbal stage of development.
Otherwise, if thoughts and beliefs didn't become automatic, you might suffer from:
Constant frustration about too many responsibilities at once...
Inability to execute upon daily tasks and responsibilities and get anything done...
Prolonged states of mind-wandering, or imagination, that result in a lack of productivity...
An inability to scour your environment for reasons of safety, health, or caring for another at the same time that there is an ongoing activity...
Repetitive car accidents, because every time the phone rings or you think about something, you forget what you're doing driving and run into something...
Yet, when thoughts and beliefs do become automatic, it's distinctly possible that some of them make you feel:
Not enough/unworthy/unloved
Rejected
Afraid
Ashamed
Why is this?
Because your parents, figures of authority, etc. may have made statements that made you feel like you're "big-boned" or "not good enough" or "unloved" when you were less than 8 years old. They may not even realize that they've done this, because they are probably repeating a pattern of beliefs that formed before they were 8 years old (as a result of something that they heard an older generation say in front of them and now repeat automatically).
Because you love your parents so much, and because you were truly present and listening, your subconscious mind may have taken on these thoughts about you... and learned to believe them...
So, when someone compliments you, you might instantly reject their compliment...
If someone doesn't include you, you might feel rejected...
You might live your life in fear due to an overwhelming sense that you have to "protect" yourself in order to survive...
Or you might feel like you're "bad", or somehow "unworthy" of love...
How do you find your way out of these beliefs and circumstances?
Easy. Please follow these three steps:
Step #1: Observe your thoughts. Close your eyes and listen to your mind. What is it saying? Every 3-5 thoughts, stop, pause, and evaluate the quality of your thoughts. Are you judging yourself? Someone else? Are your thoughts supportive and optimistic? The opposite?
After 15-20 minutes of doing this, take a journal out and write down what you've experienced and heard your mind speak to you...
Step #2: Transform these thoughts by poking doubt in them (and reinforce the thoughts and beliefs that you've heard and believe are self-supportive, or serve you)...
Example: if you heard that you aren't good enough... ask yourself if you're absolutely sure that you're the worst in the world at this thing... or incapable of a result.... or if you can think of any example that would make it possible to overcome this obstacle... if the answer is 'yes', then you know that this is a lie (in other words, it's not absolutely true that you are not good enough, so it's not true at all...).
Another example is asking yourself if you'd be willing to label someone else as 'not good enough'? If you're not willing to label her or him this way, then how could you label yourself this way?
Step #3: Tell your subconscious mind what's true consciously. Practice with affirmations throughout the day and overwhelm your subconscious mind with positive self-talk.
Here's an example:
Belief to transform: not enough
Method: Conscious re-patterning through affirmations, repetition, frequency, and embodiment of the affirmation-based feeling.
How to monitor progress: observation-based meditation to evaluate and listen to subconscious beliefs. Journal for 5-15 minutes to follow.

Thank you.
And have an awesome day!!
