INTERVIEW: Training Epiphanies (or breakthrough moments for the mind)
How to train your mind to produce epiphanies (regularly)...
In a recent interview with Dr. Kareem Samhouri, we had a fascinating discussion. At first, we began with the topic of epigenetics, for which he is known. Once we spoke about the "mind", however, the interview took a radically different direction.
Please see our dialogue below. We suspect you'll find it as interesting as we do.
EVO Team: "Dr. K, you're known for epigenetics, although you speak about the "mind" as one of the main categories you focus upon... can you better explain your definition of the "mind" and how this relates to expressing your healthiest genes?"
Dr. K: "That's right. Epigenetic optimization essentially comes down to six categories. They are:
Food
Movement
The "Mind"
Hobbies/Passions/Pursuits
Environment
and Social Life
...and out of them, the "mind" is perhaps the most powerful influencer. Don't get me wrong... if you eat a terrible diet, you're bound to express disease genes at some point in your life... if you withdraw from society for a long period of time and no longer have any social life, the chances of depression and related conditions are high.... so, each category is important.
Yet, how you "interpret" reality -- or your daily life -- ultimately determines your perception. And perception -- through your rNA -- acts as the "translator" so to speak when your rNA reaches your DNA as the messenger.
How you perceive food, movement, social life, what you do with your time, your own mind, and your environment is perhaps as important as what you eat, how and how often you move, etc."
EVO Team: "Wait, wait wait. So you're saying that if I think ice cream is good for me, it will actually be good for me? Or if I hate movement, it will be bad for me?"
Dr. K: "Yes and no. You cannot suddenly transform ice cream into an apple. Although, imagine this scenario: someone has a lifelong belief that they are allergic to apples. They were fed this belief since they were young. As it turns out, they are not actually allergic, but they don't know that...
vs...
Someone else lost their mother when they were just 4 years old. And the only real memory she has is eating ice cream with her mother, feeling loved, getting hugs, kisses, and smiles the whole way through... now, when she eats ice cream, she feels the same way.
Which is going to react better in someone's body? The apple or the ice cream?
Are you starting to see how the "mind" -- or perception -- plays a role?
EVO Team: "Yes, absolutely. We are big proponents of mastering your mind, although I've never heard it talked about this way before... please, go on...."
Dr. K: "Well, this brings up the topic of affecting perception to affect your life. There are many ways to rewrite subconscious beliefs and patterns, although the best way is to completely replace old beliefs with new ones that have more validity in your life today. Beliefs are like stereo wire. The thicker the wire -- or the more engrained the belief -- the faster the signal. So, the more engrained a belief is, the more likely your subconscious mind is to choose it over something you 'choose' to believe in this moment; that is, of course, unless you offer more validity to a new belief and can poke a hole of doubt into the old one...
...you see, in order to have more epiphanies in your life, you have to first understand what it takes to have an epiphany:
A belief that you are good enough/worthy enough to do so...
A clear enough mind to channel/receive a thought that is truly transformational...
...and an understanding of how your mind works, so you can better navigate your thought -- or idea -- formation process...
So, these are your steps. Practice through five sense affirmations -- or feeling, seeing, hearing, smelling, and tasting the air in the environment when you first realize your affirmation to be true. Use the full power of your imagination to create a new reality, or new stereo wire that is even thicker.
Poke holes in old beliefs. Who else can you call 'not good enough'? If you can't call anyone else unworthy, how dare you call yourself this!!!
Practice listening to your mind through meditation, or going on a mind journey through creative visualization... set an intention before doing so to have an epiphany -- or breakthrough moment -- and then journal on the other side of meditating... whatever comes through...
Finally, don't forget the power of prayer. If what you need right now is a clear mind and heart, ask for it and plan to receive; this is faith.
As for knowing your mind and how it works, I think this is really where the power of knowing your Brain Type comes into play... although, I'll leave it to all of you to discuss this part..."
EVO Team: "Dr. K. This is brilliant. We can't thank you enough. And, yes, you've brought up an important part about knowing your Brain Type. You see:
Alchemists are meant to create...
Explorers are meant to disruptively innovate through creative play, exploration, or fun...
Oracles are thought synthesizers, in a way, almost like a distillation process from a higher source of intelligence...
And Architects are methodical, so knowing the steps to achieve an epiphany can become a repeatable model...
